The art of book cover design

A book cover’s design is no less important than the contents inside. And let’s be honest, we all judge a book by its cover sometimes. Although we have surely come across several books with such ingenious designs that leave us in awe and admiration, the people who do graphic designs for books often work behind the scene and go largely unrecognized. Below we introduce you to five talented book cover designers. We can safely say that after seeing their works, you will definitely want to own some of the books listed here.

Tik Santi
The image that appears on London and Secrets behind Kisses has a story of its own. Several people worked together to make the cover look exactly as the author  imagined it. A big thanks goes out to a book by Tone Anusorn Tipayan for information about cigarettes and lipstick colors; to Pichan Sukaritsatit for professional photography skills; to photographer assistant Vachira Charoenrat for image editing; and Kanoknuch Sillapawisawakul for final color correction before going into print.

Manita Songserm

An up-and-coming designer whose works are extremely unique and not to be missed, Manita Songsern debuted her first book cover design on SUM: Forty tales from the afterlives, a book by Chaichai Books publishing house. She subsequently designed the cover of several other books, including Loneliness of a Long-Distance Runner[SJ2] , Jazz Murakami, and Revenge, which became a sensation for quite a while. In addition to book covers, Manita has also designed posters for many awesome exhibitions.

WRONGDESIGN
To label Kornmaipol Sirimongkolrujikul –better known as Wrongdesign– as one of Thailand’s top book cover designers, would not be too far off the mark. The number of book covers he has designed is at least 500. Among his most familiar works are the Thai translation of Haruki Murakami’s Underground, published by Gammemagie, and Paper: An Elegy, published by openworlds. Given this background, we hail Kornmaipol as one of the most talented book cover designers in Thailand. Come to think of it, are you sure the book you are reading was not designed by Wrongdesign?
